AICut Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-09-12
AICut edits talking-head video on your own device. The video itself never leaves your device — transcription, editing and rendering all happen locally. To let the AI director and the AI editor do their work, the app does send a small amount of text and a few screenshots to a large language model provider. This page explains exactly what is sent, who receives it, and where everything is stored.
What leaves your device
Only the following is sent to the model provider:
- Transcript text. Speech-to-text runs on your device using Apple's SpeechAnalyzer. The audio stays on the device; the resulting text is what gets sent.
- Frame screenshots. Up to 30 JPEG stills (10 overview frames plus up to 20 more the director asks for), so the director knows what is on screen.
- A reference video, only if you add one. When you ask the director to cut your video the way another video does, that reference video's transcript text and up to 10 of its screenshots are sent to the model to work out its pace, structure and caption style. The reference video itself is not uploaded and the app does not keep it; the project stores only the few lines describing its approach. Like every other request, this one is recorded in the on-device model log described below.
- The messages you type in the chat when you tell the director or the editor what you want.
Your original video and audio files are never uploaded, and neither is anything else in your photo library.
The built-in "AICut Trial" account
So that the app is usable the moment you install it, AICut ships with one built-in account that runs on our own provider account: AICut trial handles the text work (the director and the editor). Until you add a model account of your own, the items above are sent to DeepSeek (Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence, api.deepseek.com, servers in mainland China) using our key, and to no other provider.
- We never see or store that content. We run no server of our own — requests go straight from your device to DeepSeek and never pass through any machine of ours. All we provide is the key.
- DeepSeek does receive that content and handles it under its own privacy policy. If you would rather not send anything through our account, add your own model account before you start.
- The trial is capped at 200,000 tokens per device. Usage is counted on your device, so we cannot see what you used it for. That counter is kept in the device Keychain, so reinstalling the app does not restore the allowance.
- Once the trial is used up, you enter your own API key, and from then on every request goes to the provider you chose rather than through our account.
- The trial is a free convenience. We may change the allowance or end it at any time.
Your own model account
You can add MiniMax, Volcengine Ark (Doubao / DeepSeek), DeepSeek official, or any endpoint using the standard chat API. Once you do, the items above go to the provider you picked, governed by that provider's privacy policy. Your API key is stored only in the iOS Keychain on that device. It is never synced and never sent to us.
What we do not do
- There is no account system. You never register, and we never collect your name, email or phone number.
- There is no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDK in the app. We do not track you, we do not serve ads, and no data is used for tracking across apps or websites.
- We operate no server of our own, so there is nothing for us to collect or store. We do not sell data of any kind.
Where your data lives
- Projects, transcripts and chats are JSON files inside the app's private container, which no other app can read.
- Video. The app reads only the clip you pick and never modifies the original. Exports are saved back to your photo library.
- API keys go into the iOS Keychain and nowhere else. They are never sent anywhere except to the model provider you chose.
- The trial usage counter — a single number — is also stored in the iOS Keychain.
- Model logs. A local log of requests and responses is kept on the device for your own troubleshooting. It leaves the device only if you export it yourself.
Deleting your data
- Deleting a project deletes all of its files: transcript, chat history and intermediate artifacts.
- Deleting the app deletes your projects, transcripts, chat history and model logs.
- The Keychain is the exception. iOS does not clear Keychain items when an app is uninstalled. Your API key stays in the device Keychain until you delete that account under Models, which removes its key at the same time. The same goes for the trial usage counter: it survives a reinstall, so reinstalling the app will not reset your trial allowance.
- Content already sent to a model provider is subject to that provider's own policy. Deletion requests for it go to them.
Permissions
- Photo library — to read the video you pick and to save the finished cut.
- Speech recognition — to transcribe the video on your device.
Children
AICut is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

When the app changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
